I read BEYOND MEASURE in one afternoon. I just could not put it down. It is not a travel log, but it does encourage one to travel more. The writer seemed to have learned & appreciated a lot about the values, cultures, & ways of living of the peoples of the various countries she visited while on assignment in several foreign countries; but she also learned a lot about herself. I have ordered 5 copies to give as Christmas gifts. It would make a great gift especially for people who travel, or people who will be working in a foreign country, i.e. missionaries, Peace Corps personnel, government employees, or students traveling for the first time to foreign countries. The beautiful binding makes it an exceptionally attractive gift.Product details

The book BEYOND MEASURE is a good read. The book sheds a great deal of insight into the lives of people who choose to work overseas in the developing countries. It gives tremendous insight into the adjustments that families have to make. There were new languages and customs that were subject to change at each new post. It takes the reader to many different parts of the world where they had to make adjustments in what was available or obtainable in foods. There were distinct climate changes from country to country. They had to obtain household help which was not always easy for those with children.
It is a very informative book. There were times when you thought that the author was going on a vacation, especially at the beginning when, in fact, they were headed to a very dangerous war torn area of the world. It may be a catalyst to inspire those who like to travel and perhaps for others who may seek employment in foreign countries.
Even though I haven't finished reading it, it is a wonderful narrative of life and how far anyone can go or become.
I was fascinated and completely enjoyed this book. I read it at one sitting. Since I had traveled some of the places, I was taking the trip again. The author learned the languages and that made her stay more enjoyable. I did appreciate the respect she showed for each area's customs and culture The book is written in a colorful style that one can visualize the scenery and admire the author's rendition.
I highly suggest buying this book for a gift to give someone who likes quick interesting reading or for one who likes traveling in different countries of the world.
